University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with Taplins Nurseries is looking for Level 2 Early Years Practitioners to work at the Southampton General Hospital & Western Community Hospital sites.
Location & Working Pattern
Location: Taplins Nurseries – Southampton General Hospital & Western Community Hospital (Walnut Grove, Southampton, SO16 4XE).
Hours: Full‑time (4‑day week) or part‑time – arrangements discussed with hiring manager.
Role Overview
As a Nursery Practitioner you will care for a group of 3‑month to 5‑year old children, ensuring a safe, stimulating environment and delivering EYFS‑based activities. You will maintain records, support SEND co‑ordinators, manage hygiene, assist with meals, and contribute to a positive nursery culture.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a consistently safe, secure, and stimulating environment for children in your group.
* Plan and deliver a wide range of enjoyable, stimulating, and educational activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
* Maintain accurate records of child development, learning, and activities; update online learning journals via Tapestry.
* Support children with additional needs in partnership with the nursery SEND coordinator.
* Promote high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, supervising nappy changes, toilet training, and washing procedures, and cleaning toys and equipment.
* Assist with preparation and serving of food and supervision of meal times.
* Provide duty of care for colleagues and ensure a safe working environment for all children, staff, and visitors.
* Escalate concerns, problems, or issues appropriately to the Duty Manager or senior management.
Person Specification
Essential
* GCSE pass level or equivalent in literacy and numeracy.
* Enthusiastic approach to working with children and a practical learning attitude in a nursery setting.
* Recent experience working with 3‑month to 5‑year olds in a childcare environment.
Desirable
* Willingness to undertake a Level 3 Qualification in Early Years and Childcare.
* Current paediatric and/or first aid at work certificate.
* Current food hygiene certificate.
Salary & Benefits
Band 2 – £24,465 per annum, pro rata for part‑time. Permanent contract.
