The Risk Analytics team plays a vital role at MS Amlin in understanding, advising, and reporting on the level of risk being written by the business. It’s a stimulating environment where colleagues use sophisticated modelling and analytics, as well as their expertise in natural and man-made hazards, exposure, and financial terms to partner with underwriters and other stakeholders on business decisions. Outputs from the team are fundamental to determining prices, fulfilling capital requirements, and setting risk appetites.
Within Risk Analytics, the Insurance Catastrophe Modelling team use exposure management systems and catastrophe models, to provide analysis on MS AUL’s catastrophe risk for direct insurance classes so that Executives and Underwriters are informed to make the best possible decision making to achieve overall profits and targets. About The Job
Inter-business relationships
1. Work collaboratively with clients of Risk Analytics to provide clarity, transparency and understanding through subject-matter expertise
2. Support Analysts’ skills development through coaching and engagement, and provide guidance where required in addressing queries relating to the pricing of accounts and portfolio roll-up from underwriters in the Property space
3. Address and manage complex Property-related cases and queries from underwriters, and maintain and grow strong relationships with the Underwriting, Claims, Pricing and Underwriting Performance teams, with the ability to challenge ways of working using a continuous improvement mindset
4. Manage client and broker relationships with the ability to deal with enquiries in an efficient professional manner, and make sound judgement calls based on value realisation
5. Proactively build an internal and external network
Analytics and modelling
6. Drive thought leadership and insights, acting as the SME for Property classes
7. Oversee Property exposure capture and modelling to support and enhance underwriters’ decision making and effectively manage risk
8. Oversee and guide analysis conducted by Genpact and Modelling Analysts, providing insights and managing outputs where required
9. Oversee analysis for quarterly roll up and reporting
10. Ensure the delivery of proactive portfolio optimisation and other value-add modelling tasks such as owning model settings and adjusting models; and identifying patterns and potential data anomalies, to aid underwriting decision making and risk exposure assessment and projection
11. Lead and support additional activities and project work including event response, business planning, catastrophe projection
Strategy, Reporting and Governance
12. Undertake internal and external reporting activities for submissions
13. Assist Lead Analysts in the design and implementation of risk management strategies, ensuring alignment with business goals
14. Support governance activities, including assisting Senior Analysts in gathering information for decision focus
Compliance and Risk Management
15. Conduct role in accordance with the Company’s Business Ethics policy and all regulated entities as appropriate, role modelling behaviours and MS Amlin risk management values
16. Assist with ensuring that the portfolio and the risks underwritten are compliant with all the relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements, and are aligned to business goals
17. Support the delivery of the MS Amlin Risk Function plan and wider Risk Mandate
18. Support the ongoing development of the Risk Management Framework to assist MS Amlin in managing and mitigating risks effectively, whilst ensuring consistency across the MS Amlin Group
19. Keeping up to date with emerging risks and industry trends, and the potential impact on MS Amlin and the wider Lloyd’s market
20. Monitor in conjunction with the MS Amlin CRO, MS Amlin’s risk appetites, tolerances and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), reporting these to the MS AUL Risk & Solvency Committee and Board.

What you’ll need:
For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:
30. Excellent financial and commercial acumen
31. Significant risk analytics modelling experience
32. Have a robust understanding of the Lloyd’s Syndicate market and its operating principles
33. Experience of RMS RiskLink/ Sequel Impact is essential; experience of AIR Touchstone is desirable
34. Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint Skills are essential
35. Strong understanding of coding logic and coding experience in SQL
36. Skills in R &/or Python would be useful
37. Ability to design, operate, interpret, and communicate quantitative reporting
38. Experience in using ArcGIS, and underwriting tools would be desirable
39. Undergraduate degree in a related subject (Geography/ Mathematics/ STEM subjects) would be desirable
40. CII Qualification would be desirable
41. ICSM or vendor qualification would be beneficial.
