Job Overview
Successful candidates will be posted at Llandudno General Hospital, an elective orthopaedic hospital 12 miles from the acute & trauma hospital at Ystby Glan Clwyd. Work in North Wales, near the beach and Snowdonia National Park. The post is in a Trauma Unit with access to the Major Trauma Centre in Stoke (North Midlands NHS Trust University Hospital).
Welsh speakers are welcomed; bilingual skills are desirable.
Main Duties
* Peri‑operative care of elective orthopaedic patients (pre‑operative and post‑operative).
* Attend elective lists as available; not guaranteed as routine activity.
* Manage trauma patients in fracture clinics at the trauma hospital.
* Participate in trauma calls at SHO and registrar level as required.
* Receive weekly trauma and orthopaedic teaching; extra teaching available for exam candidates.
Post suitable for candidates preparing for MRCS/FRCS Orth exams, CESR application, or seeking a balanced work‑life schedule.
Working Environment
Services are based at Glan Clwyd Hospital and Abergele Hospital. Elective orthopaedics currently operate at Abergele Hospital (6 miles from the main hospital). Clinics are held at several community hospitals. There is potential for future transfer of elective services to the base hospital. The department includes 11 consultants on a trauma rota and one consultant for elective surgery. It is consultant‑led with full support.
Detailed Responsibilities
Work in a team with your consultant, with responsibility for patient care and department function. Appointee will rotate between Glan Clwyd and Abergele Hospital, gaining exposure to emergency and elective care. Consultant supervision is ensured. Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to practice
* M.B., B.S., or equivalent
* MRCS/FRCS/MRCP
Desirable Qualifications
* Research activity/publication
* Welsh speaker
* Car owner/driver
Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in surgical and medical management of emergency and elective musculoskeletal presentations.
* ATLS provider
Desirable Experience
