Children & Young People Support Worker / Families

Swansea

£13.50 per hour

28 hours per week (9:00am - 4:30pm, 4 days per week)

Temporary ongoing (month-to-month contract)

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Community VAWDASV Specialist to support children, young people, and families affected by domestic abuse across Swansea.

This role focuses on delivering 1:1 and group support to children and young people, helping them build confidence, improve emotional wellbeing, and recover from the impact of domestic abuse. You will also work with families to strengthen relationships and promote positive parenting.

Much of your time will be spent in a school setting, and occasionally at the office.

What will you do?

* Assess referrals and develop tailored support plans
* Deliver 1:1 and group support sessions for children and young people
* Facilitate programmes focused on healthy relationships and recovery from domestic abuse (e.g. S.T.A.R programme)
* Support families to improve communication and promote positive parenting
* Organise activities and resources for children and young people
* Work with families in the community and supported accommodation
* Carry out risk assessments and ensure safeguarding procedures are followed
* Liaise with partner agencies to support families effectively
* Maintain accurate records and case notes
* Promote service user participation and engagement

What do we need?

* A childcare or education related qualification would be great! but not essential.
* Knowledge of child development and safeguarding procedures
* Experience working with children, young people, and families
* Understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on children and young people
* Experience of support planning and managing a caseload
* Strong communication and organisational skills
* Ability to manage challenging behaviour and work in a trauma-informed way
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
* Experience in areas such as mental health, self-harm, substance misuse, or play work
* Experience delivering group programmes or co-producing services
