Team Member - Emergency Response Unit

Full time – Rotating shifts, nights and days. Derby, Raynesway

Reporting to the Resilience Manager via the Team Leader, the Team Member ERU is responsible for delivering day‑to‑day operations and maintaining readiness to respond in an emergency.


Key Accountabilities

* Achieve and maintain competency as an Emergency Response Unit Officer, including full competency in Fire & Rescue response roles and related skills for conventional chemical and radiological emergency incidents.
* Maintain emergency support competencies for working at height and confined space activities.
* Maintain emergency support competency for operational use of Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus.
* Directly support delivery of technical work and specialist tasks to maintain nuclear safety.
* Promote Health, Safety and Environmental safety working arrangements across site and deliver improvements in this key area.
* Inform and educate the onsite community to improve safety awareness and facilitate learning through demonstration and instruction.
* Support the effectiveness of operational response by collecting information on risks and making arrangements to mitigate foreseeable risks.
* Drive, manoeuvre and redeploy ERU vehicles – drive to incidents, manoeuvre to site and redeploy vehicles.


Who we’re looking for

* Recent demonstrable experience of competency in an Emergency Services Role.
* Fully conversant with and able to discharge responsibilities under the Site Emergency Arrangements, including fire conditions, hostile environments, self‑contained breathing apparatus, fully enclosed protective clothing, work‑at‑height and confined spaces.
* Advanced first responder qualifications – Advanced First Aider/trauma technician or equivalent.
* Working knowledge of Fire and Rescue Service Incident Command System, JESIP Principles and Site Emergency Arrangements.
* Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues, the community and other agencies.
* Full valid UK manual car driving licence and likely training to Class 2 HGV level (Class 2 HGV qualification desirable).
* Meet fitness standards, medical checks including eyesight examinations.
* Restriction on facial hair to allow safe use of close‑fitting respiratory protective equipment.

* Effective written and oral communication skills.
* Effective problem‑solving skills.
* Identify hazards and risks and demonstrate situational awareness.
* Use IT systems, plan and implement skills, organisational awareness and attention to detail.


Shift Work Overview

* Rotating continuous pattern 24/7 365 days a year coverage.
* Potential to work on public holidays such as Christmas, Easter, etc.
* Currently averaged at 42 hours per week in blocks of 48 hours.
* Requirement to support additional hours, standby/on call rota to cover unplanned deficiencies in minimum cover levels for the team.
* Shift allowance paid.

To work for the Rolls‑Royce Submarines Business an individual must hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats. Rolls‑Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.
