Job Overview
As a Senior Planning and Project Officer you will work on the preparation of a joint Local Plan for Newcastle and Gateshead. This role will involve scoping evidence, plan development, public consultation, and support for the examination in public. You will take responsibility for the housing workstream, monitoring progress and risks, and contribute to corporate objectives that address climate change, poverty and the cost‑of‑living crisis.
Responsibilities
* Support the development and delivery of the Local Plan, focusing on housing and sustainable growth.
* Lead the housing workstream, monitor progress and manage associated risks.
* Engage with stakeholders, both within and outside the organization, to inform planning decisions.
* Coordinate public consultation processes and prepare for the examination stage.
Qualifications
You will be a highly motivated and ambitious individual with demonstrable post‑qualification experience in planning policy, evidence and policy development, and an in‑depth knowledge of relevant legislation and planning policy guidance. You should be a strong, open and transparent communicator, possess excellent verbal and written skills, and be comfortable engaging with stakeholders.
