The Museum of Making has completed a five-year programme on the site of the world’s first factory. Celebrating Derby’s rich history of innovation, the Museum of Making is a contemporary space showcasing Derby’s 300-year history of making to inspire new creativity. It features galleries, exclusive event spaces, and a bustling fresh-food café to create a high-standard guest experience. We are seeking a talented kitchen brigade member to help achieve this!
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Chef De Partie to join our team at the Museum of Making. You will manage a section of our fresh food kitchen, working with high-quality, locally sourced produce to create dishes inspired by Derbyshire heritage within a busy café/restaurant. Our kitchen also caters buffets for events ranging from 10 to 200 guests, alongside regular café service.
Our venue operates as a café and corporate venue by day and transforms into an events space by night, hosting gala dinners, awards ceremonies, weddings, and other events for small groups or over 120 guests. Responsibilities include preparing fresh fish from local markets, managing stock, rotating sections around the kitchen, and overseeing a specific area during busy times. Derby Museums is registered with The Hospitality Charter, emphasizing a positive work environment, work/life balance, and fair hours.
The Person
You should have a keen eye for detail and the ability to prioritize responsibilities in a busy kitchen and events setting. Organizational skills and a structured approach are essential. Experience in a fresh food kitchen at any level and a passion for learning and experimenting with recipes are important. Being a team player who thrives under pressure is vital. We offer compliance training and opportunities for development. Ideally, you will have at least 2 years’ experience as a Commis Chef or Junior CDP, but this is not essential.
We value diversity and equality and particularly welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
