We are seeking an inspirational academic leader and role model to develop and deliver the School's Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) programme. This is a rare opportunity to shape a genuinely pioneering initiative, one of the first of its kind in the UK, which will create new pathways into medicine for high-achieving biomedical science students and directly address NHS workforce needs. The expected launch date for the pathway is September 2027.
Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) is a joint venture between the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, established in 2020 with a distinctive widening participation mission.
This role will lead the design and delivery of a programme enabling biomedical science students to transition into medicine based on high performance in Years 1 and 2, assessed through a standardised selection process. Selected students will enter a bespoke transition year before joining Year 3 of the undergraduate medical degree with credible prior learning and graduating as medical practitioners after a further three years of study on the BMBS programme.
As Senior Lecturer in Medical Education (APL lead) you can expect to be involved in:
* Using experience of higher education, deliver and contribute to the design of high-quality, demand-driven, and student-centred taught programmes as a member of the teaching team.
* Working with the KMMS Head of Admissions to develop and deliver the recruitment process for eligible students.
* Co-ordinating all aspects of preparation for the inaugural delivery of the transition year, taking learner, academic and regulatory needs into account.
* Enabling a smooth transition for selected students from Biomedical Science to the BMBS programme.
What will you bring to the role:
* Significant academic or professional experience in higher education, with at least a postgraduate qualification (e.g., Academic Masters, Membership of a Royal College, or equivalent professional credential)
* Academic credibility with a track record of excellence in teaching
* Ability to innovate in relation to the development of the School's taught programmes
* Extensive experience of and commitment to academic leadership and management in a higher education or healthcare setting
What we can offer in return:
As a member of our team, you can expect a friendly, open and collaborative working environment and support in your development and wellbeing. You'll enjoy a range of great staff benefits including:
* 43 days' leave per year (personal leave, bank holidays and additional days allocated for the Christmas period, pro rata for part-time staff)
* Excellent pension scheme with generous employer contributions
* Corporate employee-funded healthcare plan, in partnership with Benenden Health
