Overview
The post holder will be responsible for delivering a safe, efficient and effective imaging and Breast Mammography service for the Trust and the South Essex Screening Service in accordance with Screening and Trust protocols, ensuring a high‑quality service at all times.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality mammography and breast imaging, maintaining safety and compliance with NICE guidelines, IGMS, and Trust policies.
* Support the superintendent in organising staff schedules, workload and staff rotations, and coordinate the day‑to‑day operation of mammography rooms.
* Supervise and mentor junior radiographers, undergraduate students, assistant practitioners and newly qualified radiographers.
* Publish and promote best practice through education, peer support and presentations.
* Carry out screening responsibilities, including justifying imaging for patients beyond the current upper age limit and working independently on mobile screening vans.
* Act on QA data, liaise with mobile site staff for supplies, and maintain equipment testing records.
* Provide accurate, confidential records in the Radiology Information System and other relevant databases; maintain data protection compliance.
* Ensure hygiene and cleanliness of the environment, and manage consumables and inventory of radiographic equipment.
* Report incidents, near‑misses and complaints in line with Trust protocols.
* Participate in audits, quality‑management systems and the Divisional Audit Programme.
* Implement policy updates, new practice changes and national guidance within scope of practice.
* Lead training and professional development for team members, ensuring continuous CPD and publication of evidence‑based practice.
* Maintain compliance with the HCPC code of conduct, safe‑radiation standards (IRR99, IR(ME)R2000) and other legal requirements.
Requirements
Applicants must hold an unrestricted right to work in the UK and possess a strong background in breast imaging and radiography with experience in mammography, stereotactic procedures, and mobile screening services.
