Locum Consultant in Paediatric Oncology – a whole‑time post at the John Radcliffe Hospital/Children's Hospital of Oxford.
The post is for 10.0 programmed activities (PAs) and will work alongside the current permanent staff: three Paediatric Oncologists and three Paediatric Haematologists.

Job Description / Responsibilities
Main duties of the job include management of patients with solid and CNS tumours, leukaemia and lymphoma aged 0‑19 years. The postholder will participate in the 1 in 6 consultant of the week system, providing cross‑cover for in‑patient activity, dealing with new referrals, initial diagnostic work‑up, planning and delivery of treatment and care.
The postholder will work as an integral member of the team, attending and contributing to the established Oxford multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, reviewing patients on the day unit, supporting fellows and staff grades, and independently leading outpatient clinics.
The postholder will provide advice and support to other paediatric specialists within CHOX Children’s Services and paediatricians within the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance. Haemophilia support and advice are provided by a separate on‑call rota.
The on‑call weekend ward round is delivered by consultants, who review all haematology and oncology inpatients and provide telephone advice for patients in POSCUs.
Cross‑cover of consultant colleagues is expected for periods of annual/study leave and sickness.
Outpatient Care
On‑treatment outpatient care is delivered on Kamran’s Day Care, a separate area for the administration of chemotherapy, blood products and assessment of patients. The successful candidate will be expected to see patients and support the Fellows/Staff Grade doctors in Day Care.
Tumour surveillance and follow‑up clinics for patients not on active treatment occur in the dedicated Children’s Outpatients. Children’s Outpatients is also the site for haematology follow‑up and benign haematology clinics, e.g. haemoglobinopathy. A large and active Paediatric Haemophilia service is based in the outpatients clinic at CHOX.

Qualifications – Essential
* Full GMC with licence to practice
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and be on the specialist register, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. This should be in paediatric haematology or oncology
* Ability to communicate effectively through good verbal and written skills
Qualifications – Desirable

Experience – Essential
* Compliance with competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training
* Valid APLS and NLS
* Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
* Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and manage complex clinical problems
