37 weeks contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Street Works Technician to support the coordination and management of roadworks and highway activities across Somerset.
• This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop a career in highways, traffic management, or public service, with full training provided.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Assist with the coordination of road closures, permits, and street works activities.
• Support network coordination to minimise disruption to the public.
• Provide basic technical advice under the guidance of senior team members.
• Use digital systems, mapping tools, and databases to manage information.
• Prepare maps, reports, spreadsheets, and other documentation.
• Carry out administrative tasks, including data entry and accuracy checking.
• Respond to enquiries from members of the public and resolve highways-related issues.
• Attend team meetings and occasional site visits as required.
Skills/Experience:
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable using IT systems and willingness to learn new software.
• Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach.
• Interest in highways, transport, or public sector work (desirable, not essential).
• Full UK driving licence (required).
Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Full training provided – no prior Street Works experience required.
• Hybrid working pattern (2 days in the office, 3 days remote).
• 37 hours per week.
• Temporary position (37 weeks).
• Office based in Taunton.
