KLA's Corporate Platform Group (CPG), responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is seeking skilled Mechanical Design Engineers to join us in Newport, UK.
Purpose of the role
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer who is hands-on, highly motivated, and a team player. The candidate will be involved throughout the entire product lifecycle, from prototype to productization, playing a key role in the mechanical design and qualification of future KLA products.
The engineer will support the design, construction, and qualification of a variety of KLA equipment front end modules (EFEMs) and integrated components. Responsibilities include providing solutions for tooling, test fixtures, and prototypes to validate concepts and mitigate risks.
Minimum Qualifications
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
* Managing the complete mechanical design process, including requirements specification, feasibility studies, cost control, and scheduling.
* Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define design requirements, implement best practices, and deliver functional product designs.
* Designing mechanical components using 3D CAD software.
* Performing or overseeing CFD and FEA analyses to optimize airflow and mechanical design of semiconductor equipment.
* Converting 3D mechanical designs into 2D drawings, applying mechanical tolerances and GD&T to ensure proper fit and functionality.
* Engaging with suppliers to develop components and sub-assemblies that support rapid product development.
* Ensuring parts and assemblies are manufactured according to design, cost, and schedule requirements.
* Participating in the entire design/build cycle, including design, modeling, review presentations, drawing creation, prototype procurement, system integration, and testing.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with relevant work experience.
* Excellent communication skills in English, organized, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to take ownership of projects and tasks, leading and driving mechanical design efforts.
* Experience working with cross-functional teams is preferred.
* Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering principles, materials, and fabrication methods.
* Experience with 2D drafting and tolerance analysis.
* Desirable experience includes: CREO Parametric 3D MCAD, CFD airflow analysis, FEA, DFM, welded sheet metal design, measurement instrumentation, and programming in Python, C/C++/C# or MATLAB.
