Workplace Classification: Hybrid - This position does not require full-time on-site presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team:
GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT solutions for motorsports. Using cloud infrastructure and modern software standards, the team supports GM’s NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA teams to achieve race victories.
The Role:
The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and hands-on software development. This role involves designing scalable systems, leading architecture efforts, and contributing to motorsports software that offers competitive advantages on race day and informs vehicle development. The focus is on aerodynamics systems design.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading a team to develop and maintain GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications including CFD modeling and visualization.
* Designing solution architectures and leading team consensus on implementation.
* Focusing on modern application design, modular frameworks, and loose system integration.
* Collaborating with the aerodynamics team to identify and fill value gaps with innovative solutions.
* Resolving technical blockers and ensuring smooth delivery milestones.
* Delivering Scrum stories and managing implementation architectures, interfaces, build frameworks, testing, and deployment.
* Collaborating with team members and managing your part of the solution reliably.
Qualifications include:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
* Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
* Experience in full-stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* At least 5 years in microservices development and 2 years in web services.
* Experience with containers (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
Preferred qualifications:
* Master's degree in a technical discipline.
* Exposure to aerodynamics engineering, AI & ML, VR frameworks, data streaming tech, and cross-platform development.
* Leadership and architecture experience, knowledge of data serialization, and a passion for motorsports.
