Overview
Champion the education of children in care, helping them build brighter futures. As a Virtual School Advisory Teacher, you'll be using your teaching experience to make a lasting difference. You'll work directly with children in care, alongside schools, carers and social workers, to make sure each young person gets the support they need to thrive in education - wherever they're placed.
Working Style
This is a full-time, Bi-Borough role focused on making a meaningful difference in the lives of care-experienced young people. Whether working directly with young people or providing essential support behind the scenes, you will be part of a dedicated and passionate team. This is a hybrid position, with an expectation to be in a public-facing role three days per week.
What you'll be doing
* Take responsibility for a group of children in care, acting as their advocate in all things education. Ensure they have every chance to succeed, including reviewing Personal Education Plans (PEPs), monitoring progress, and ensuring pupil premium funding is used effectively.
* Travel to meet young people wherever they are placed, providing direct support through mentoring, tuition and observation. Build close working relationships with Designated Teachers and school leaders, offering guidance, challenging practice where needed, and always keeping the child’s needs at the centre.
* Track data carefully to spot where extra support is needed, and help design interventions that work. Play a role in training school staff, foster carers and social workers to help everyone understand what young people in care need to feel safe, supported and able to learn.
* Be a qualified teacher with experience in mainstream education, covering at least two key stages. Bring a strong understanding of the legislation around children in care and how it impacts their education.
* Work with a wide range of people – from young people and carers to school staff and social workers – and build trust quickly. Be organized, responsive, and able to manage time effectively, even with a busy and varied caseload.
* Care deeply about helping children in care succeed – academically and in finding stability, confidence and belief in their own potential.
