We are seeking
a Research Assistant to work with the Gene Medicine Group to develop gene therapeutics for a range of rare diseases. The group is directed by Professors Deborah Gill and Steve Hyde at the University of Oxford, and based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The project is funded by the MRC Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Therapeutic Genomics, hosted at the University of Oxford. This is a major UK initiative to accelerate the development of gene therapies for currently untreatable genetic disorders. Key institutions involved at Oxford include the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), the Department of Paediatrics, and the Radcliffe Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team-worker willing to support multiple gene therapy projects. In particular, the applicant will contribute to the production and testing of new adeno-associated viral vectors for therapeutic application, which will include the large-scale manufacture of purified virus batches. This is a unique opportunity for a research scientist to contribute to the clinical development of new gene therapy products from first inception, proof-of-concept testing through to successful manufacturing. The successful candidate will hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant biological science subject with expertise in molecular/cell biology and 2-years relevant laboratory experience in line with the duties of the posts, as outlined in the Job Description.
