Overview
Lead Engineering Manager - Web Platform at Booker. You will be the sole Lead Engineering Manager for Websites & Apps, accountable for driving the engineering vision, execution, and success of our digital platforms across web and mobile channels. You will lead a team responsible for developing secure, scalable, and customer-centric digital solutions that enhance satisfaction and contribute to business profitability.
The Online Shopping team owns the end-to-end customer experience for the Booker.co.uk website and mobile app, along with the supporting digital infrastructure. Booker.co.uk is a fast-growing online wholesale website in the UK, currently generating £3.5 billion with projections to exceed £4 billion within the next two years. The site attracts approximately 3 million users with growth aligned to demand and sales performance.
Responsibilities
* Own the end-to-end development and delivery for Booker’s websites and mobile applications (iOS and Android).
* Lead and manage engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
* Oversee the end-to-end delivery of technical solutions, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
* Translate product requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions, working closely with Product Managers.
* Drive technical excellence by promoting best practices in software development, architecture, and testing.
* Manage team capacity, resources, and priorities, ensuring effective planning and workload distribution.
* Mentor and develop team members, supporting career growth, performance management, and team engagement.
* Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across product design and operations to align technical solutions with business objectives.
Requirements
* Proven experience as an engineering manager, preferably in e-commerce or digital retail platforms.
* A passion for creating simple, innovative, and customer-first digital experiences.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Knowledge of prioritisation, managing dependencies, performance, and testing tools and techniques.
* Experience with agile methodologies to deliver exemplar products.
* Ability to deliver the right stuff and foster a positive team culture, including collaboration with 3rd party developers.
* Strong people management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
