Overview
United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (ULTH) are looking for 2 substantive Consultant posts in the Accident and Emergency Department at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and Lincoln County Hospital. The role is within our Emergency Medicine team and requires a full‑time Consultant who will provide high‑quality patient care, supervision, education and support to the department.
Employment Details
- Location: Pilgrim Hospital, Boston and Lincoln County Hospital
- Contract: Substantive full‑time Consultant with an 85% DCC / 15% SPA split.
- On‑call: 1:15 rota with a 1:5 weekend frequency; on‑call supplement Category A (8%).
- Part‑time option: Additional contract with full dedication to post duties.
- Applicant must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT. CESR application must be submitted.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive clinical, supervisory, educational and training support to the Emergency Department.
- Collaborate to maintain emergency medicine aligned with strategic requirements.
- Supervise junior medical and nursing staff and participate in their training and assessment, including Specialist Registrars and ST Grade doctors.
- Participate in the development of treatment protocols and clinical governance programmes.
- Maintain effective communication with colleagues from other specialties and primary care.
- Lead and supervise junior staff in appraisal processes.
- Encourage the development of special interests complementary to existing consultants.
- Develop appropriate services and techniques to meet clinical needs within available resources.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM).
- Completion of CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent (or expected within 6 months of interview).
- Full GMC registration with license to practice.
- ATLS/ETC & ALS certification.
- APLS or PALS certification.
- Leadership or teaching qualification (desirable).
- Dual accreditation in PHEM/PEM (desirable).
- Instructor status in advanced life support courses (desirable).
Clinical Experience
- Broad, relevant emergency medicine experience, including management of emergency problems.
- Experience of taking full and independent responsibility for clinical work.
- Experience providing ED shop floor leadership and supervision.
- Ability to teach all grades of medical and clinical staff (ACP's, paramedics, nurses, PAs and ENPs).
- At least 6 months consultant-level experience.
Clinical Governance
- Evidence of understanding clinical governance and commitment to continuous professional development.
- Experience dealing with complaint management.
- Experience with morbidity and mortality meetings.
