We are seeking a dedicated Special Needs Assistant to join our team. This role involves working with individual children who have special or particular needs, as well as groups of children, under the direction of the Teacher. The successful candidate will support the Headteacher/Teacher in a range of child-centred activities to promote child development and learning.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Assist with the planning and preparation of activities, and in the delivery of local and national educational initiatives, such as literacy and numeracy strategies.
* Participate in the preparation of the classroom environment.
* Monitor children’s needs and report these to a designated person.
* Maintain records as required by the School.
* Familiarise with all relevant EHCPs specific to the children being supported.
* Promote development and learning across physical, emotional, educational, and social areas, fostering growth, self-esteem, and independence.
* Observe and record children's development.
* Provide support to children with special needs, including carrying out reasonable daily personal care/hygiene duties and administering basic first aid.
* Assist with the movement of children in and around the school.
* Supervise children over break and lunch periods.
* Act in accordance with school policies and procedures, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience in supporting children with special needs in an educational setting.
* Ability to assist with planning and implementing educational activities.
* Strong observation and reporting skills.
* Familiarity with EHCPs and the ability to handle sensitive information.
* Competence in basic first aid and personal care tasks.
* Commitment to the core values of the school and Trust.
* Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and staff meetings.
