Staffordshire Police is seeking to appoint two forward-thinking Chief Superintendents to help lead our organisation at a pivotal time. Our ambition is clear: to deliver a safe and confident Staffordshire, secured by an outstanding local police service that is passionate about serving its communities, caring for its people, and working in strong partnership with others.
As a Chief Superintendent, you will play a critical role in delivering our Force priorities. These include strengthening our focus on vulnerability, delivering high-quality investigations, improving public confidence, and driving down crime and antisocial behaviour across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
Staffordshire is a county of proud communities: from rural villages and market towns to the urban centres of Stoke-on-Trent, Tamworth, and Burton upon Trent. Our opportunities are open to both substantive Chief Superintendents looking for a level transfer or, substantive Superintendents applying for promotion.
About the Role
As a Chief Superintendent, you will:
1. Provide strategic leadership for operational policing, ensuring we prevent and detect crime, protect the vulnerable, and secure justice for victims.
2. Lead complex areas of business, operations, or local policing commands with professionalism, integrity, and sound judgement.
3. Drive high performance and accountability, creating a culture that supports, challenges, and empowers our people.
4. Strengthen public confidence through openness, engagement, and visible leadership in local communities.
5. Lead collaboration with partners—local authorities, Fire & Rescue, health, justice, education, and voluntary sectors—to solve problems and reduce harm.
6. Contribute to Force-wide transformation, organisational learning, and the continuous improvement of policing services.
Skills, Experience & Behaviours (COP Role Profile – Chief Superintendent)
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:

7. Ability to set clear direction, lead through complexity, and make ethical, evidence-based decisions.
8. Experience managing significant operational or organisational risk.
9. Strong judgement under pressure, with the ability to balance competing priorities.
Partnerships & Collaboration
10. Proven ability to lead across boundaries, influence partners, and build strong collaborative relationships.
11. Experience working with statutory partners to address vulnerability, crime, public safety, and community concerns.
Delivering Performance & Improvement
12. Demonstrated success in driving performance, improving service quality, and achieving organisational outcomes.
13. Understanding of modern policing challenges, including vulnerability, digital crime, neighbourhood policing, and public confidence.

14. Commitment to the highest standards of professional behaviour, fairness, and integrity.
15. Ability to role-model and embed inclusive, positive, and ethical leadership.

Command Qualification
Applicants should hold a current command skill at PPF/Command Level appropriate for Chief Superintendent roles. However, we welcome applicants who do not yet hold this accreditation but are willing to work towards achieving it.

Policing in is undergoing significant transformation, including proposals for major reforms and an increased focus on leadership capability, ethical standards, and cultural change across the service. These reforms aim to improve consistency, rebuild public confidence, and ensure policing is equipped for modern challenges.
Question 1:
Describe how you will lead your teams through a major period of change in policing, ensuring high standards, professionalism, and public confidence are achieved and maintained.

Successful candidates will be invited to attend a Stakeholder Panel on Monday 18th May. The Interview process will take place Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd May.
