The role
Reporting to the Chief Executive and sitting on the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead Finance, People, and Operations – including oversight of IT. You will be instrumental in developing a long-term, robust financial plan, ensuring the charity can continue to invest strategically while maximising value for money.
With healthy reserves, strong liquidity, and a history of year-on-year income growth, the organisation is financially sound – but now is the time to fine-tune performance, improve insight, and strengthen decision-making with deeper, more commercially astute analysis. The role requires travel to London once per week.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Leading and supporting the Finance, People, and Operations functions, including a finance team of five members.
2. Supporting a new Head of Operations role and helping embed new ways of working following an organisational restructure.
3. Working closely with SLT colleagues to produce detailed, credible financial information that informs strategic decision-making.
4. Overseeing the year-end and audit process as well as budgeting and planning in early .
5. Acting as a steady, credible presence during a time of change – supporting teams, resolving uncertainty, and maintaining business-as-usual delivery.
We are seeking an experienced Finance Director (qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) who has operated at SLT level, ideally overseeing a complex or matrix team. Charity sector experience strongly preferred.
You will bring:
6. Proven ability to dive into the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
7. Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills, able to challenge constructively and add real value.
8. Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams through change.
9. Excellent stakeholder skills, with the credibility to influence at board level.
This role is a rare opportunity to join a unique organisation at a time when your impact will be both immediate and long-lasting.
If you are a proven leader who can combine strategic vision with hands-on delivery, we would love to hear from you ASAP – this person needs to get started in early September and interviews will be held at the end of August.
