Overview
We are seeking an experienced and confident Senior Residential Support Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will take a leading role in providing high-quality care and support to children, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and development are prioritised at all times. This position requires someone with proven experience in residential childcare, the ability to lead shifts effectively, and the skills to mentor and guide junior staff. You will work closely with families, internal teams, and external professionals to deliver personalised, child-centred support in line with care plans and organisational standards.
Responsibilities
* Lead shifts confidently, ensuring the smooth running of the home and appropriate delegation of tasks
* Support and guide the team during day-to-day routines, offering mentoring and role modelling to junior staff
* Assist children with daily living tasks while promoting independence, resilience, and confidence
* Implement, review, and contribute to individualised care plans in collaboration with multi-agency professionals
* Support children in educational, recreational, and social activities both inside and outside the home
* Maintain clear and professional communication with families, colleagues, and external agencies
* Safely transport children to school, appointments, and activities when required
* Monitor, record, and report progress, behaviours, and any safeguarding concerns in line with policy
* Help create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured environment that supports each child's development
* Use IT systems to update records, complete reports, and ensure accurate documentation across the home
* Participate in team meetings, handovers, and audits, contributing to continuous improvement
Requirements
* Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare – essential
* Significant experience working in a residential children's home
* Proven ability to lead shifts, manage routines, and support team members
* Valid driving licence and ability to transport children safely
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with children, families, and professionals
* Solid understanding of safeguarding, behaviour support, child development, and care planning
* Confident in using IT systems for record-keeping and reporting
* Compassionate, resilient, and committed to promoting the wellbeing and growth of children
* Flexible to work on a rota, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins if required
