A fantastic opportunity to join a high performing GP surgery, looking to welcome a new Practice Nurse to the team.
We are ideally seeking someone to work 30 hours per week, over four days, but we a level of flexibility can be considered.
Main duties of the job
Toprovide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well asproviding nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primaryhealthcare team. The duties will includeall tasks normally undertaken by a Treatment Room Nurse and in addition anyroles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard tocurrent training
About us
Located on the outskirts of Rushden in a purpose built medical centre which opened in 2006, the surgery boasts 9 doctors, currently serving a population of some 14,000 patients.
Clinically the doctors are supported by a Clinical Pharmacist, 3 Nurse Practitioners, 4 Treatment Room Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant and 2 Nursing Associates. We also have a Physicians Associate and have access to a First Contact Physiotherapist, a Paramedic Home Visiting service, daily Paediatric Nurse clinics, a Social Prescriber and Care Coordinators for our care home residents and elderly, frail patients.
Our Practice Manager is supported by an Operations Manager and our Administrative support team includes 8 Receptionists and 7 Administrator/Secretaries. The surgery is a training practice and hosts GP Trainees and Medical Students from Cambridge University. The surgery hosts the GP Enahnced Access Service and is also a vaccination centre for East Northants. The practice is also a research practice.

Job responsibilities
Professional:
1. Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
2. Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
3. Providing lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Facilitates change.
4. Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
5. Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Aware of Child Protection Procedures.
6. Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for ear irrigation.
7. Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
8. Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines
9. Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines.
10. Suture removal.
11. Take ECGs
12. Chaperone & document such activity
13. Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
14. Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
15. Assist in the provision of minor surgery.
16. Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
17. Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
18. Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, sterilizer and emergency equipment.
