Steele Charles are delighted to be partnering with a growing and well invested food manufacturer in Wiltshire to recruit a Buyer and Production Planner for their site based near Swindon.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a premium food business supplying major UK retailers and international markets. The company manufactures a diverse range of high quality products from its own UK production facility and continues to invest in growth, innovation and operational capability.
The successful candidate will take ownership of both procurement and production planning activities, playing a critical role in ensuring materials availability, cost control and smooth manufacturing operations.
This position would suit a food manufacturing professional looking to step up into a broader, more autonomous supply chain role with real influence.
The Role
You will be responsible for aligning procurement activity with production requirements, ensuring the timely and cost effective supply of ingredients, raw materials and packaging.
Working closely with Production, Technical, Finance and Sales, you will help maintain supply continuity, manage risk and support margin performance.
Key responsibilities include:
• Production planning aligned to sales forecasts and stock requirements
• Procurement of ingredients, packaging and selected indirect categories
• Supplier sourcing, negotiation and performance management
• Raising and managing purchase orders through ERP or MRP systems
• Monitoring stock levels, shelf life and potential supply risks
• Managing and updating Bills of Materials for accurate costings
• Reviewing supplier pricing against agreed cost models
• Supporting food safety compliance and supplier approvals
• Leading and developing a Purchasing Administrator
• Providing procurement insight in operational meetings
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience within food manufacturing. This is essential due to the nature of the production environment.
You may currently be:
• A Buyer within a food or FMCG manufacturing business
• A Production Planner with strong commercial awareness
• An Assistant Supply Chain Manager ready for greater ownership
• A Senior Purchasing professional seeking broader responsibility
Experience required:
• Background within food manufacturing
• Experience sourcing ingredients and or packaging
• Exposure to ERP or MRP systems
• Strong Excel capability
• Understanding of production environments, shelf life and supply risk
• Confident communicator able to work cross functionally
Previous leadership experience is beneficial but not essential for candidates demonstrating readiness to step up.
