Are you a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist ready to take on a leadership role? Do you thrive working in both clinical and domiciliary settings? If so, we want to hear from you! We are seeking a Senior Phlebotomist to join and support our Merseyside Team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for someone with a proven track record in phlebotomy, exceptional leadership skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
* Provide phlebotomy services across clinic venues and patients’ homes throughout the Merseyside area.
* Take on a leadership role within the phlebotomy team, working closely with the Team Manager ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the service.
* Support the ongoing development and quality improvement of our service.
* Work flexible hours, between 07:00 and 19:00, Monday to Friday, with the potential for evening and weekend shifts as the service expands.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Substantial experience and competency as a Phlebotomist.
* Strong leadership and organisational skills to manage and support a team.
* Flexible, proactive, and a positive “can-do” attitude.
* Willing and able to travel for work between clinic sites and patient homes.
* Commitment to attending training sessions and team meetings to maintain and enhance service delivery.
Principal Responsibilities
* Contribute to the provision of a high quality Merseyside Phlebotomy service.
* Work with the Team Manager/peers to undertake workload planning, including rotas, taking into account competence levels.
* Support the service to develop new ways of working to provide a responsive service to clients.
* Support and empathise with clients, carers and families in time of need.
* Support the service to develop and maintain multi-agency partnerships and joint working in line with the objectives.
* Participate in the mentorship and assessment of a range of learners and in the preceptorship and support of new colleagues.
* Maintain stock as required.
Leadership Requirements
* Contribute to the development of policy and services to meet the needs of Merseyside Primary Care provider service defined group clients.
* Provide leadership, mentorship and role modelling to support staff within the service and support the Team Manager in the day to day running of the service.
Clinical Role and Responsibilities
* Attend mandatory training, core training and training that will enhance practice.
* Provide support and knowledge to support staff as required.
* Act as an advocate and champion for clients.
* Work within guidelines to identify and manage risk, reporting identified risks to the Operational manager.
* Work in collaboration with other agencies, according to Trust policy.
* Identify own needs and prioritise work appropriately.
* Maintain appropriate records and returns, both written and computerised.
* Liaise regularly with all stakeholders in the promotion of the phlebotomy service.
Service Development
* Support the phlebotomy service in the implementation of practice development, improvement and service modernisation initiatives.
* Develop skills and competencies as required, to provide effective care and support to client group.
Research & Audit
* Provide relevant data and information as requested in a timely manner.
* Participate in audit as required by Mersey Care.
Clinical Governance / Quality
* Participate in individual clinical supervision.
* Support the training and development of support staff.
Communication / Relationship Requirements
* Communicate with other professional and statutory groups involved in care management, including safeguarding adults.
* Communicate sensitive and complex information to clients, carers, colleagues and other professionals where there may be barriers to understanding, using interpreting services where appropriate.
* Establish robust communication channels with the Phlebotomy team and other professionals and agencies.
* Attend staff meetings, team meetings, working groups and focus groups as appropriate.
