Overview
Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management (ELM) - 31666. The Environment Agency aims to shape the future of agricultural policy and delivery, with a focus on Environmental Land Management schemes that incentivise farmers and land managers to deliver water, soil and biodiversity outcomes alongside food production. The role supports Defra and delivery partners to improve services to farmers and contribute to the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, the environment and climate. The role includes influencing the design and delivery of incentives within the broader response to government reviews, and delivering key outcomes for the Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) as part of the Farming and Countryside Programme.
Responsibilities
* Advise in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones; identify future risks and resource requirements.
* Work across multiple teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a CSHT scheme that supports EA outcomes.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of ELM scheme design and delivery.
* Provide advisory support to Defra, delivery bodies and the agriculture sector to achieve consistency and improve collaboration.
* Represent and influence policy and agricultural scheme design and implementation.
Team environment
The team sits within the Nature & Place Directorate, part of the National Agriculture and Land Team. We operate in an agile, fast-paced, flexible and collaborative environment, with a dispersed workforce and smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
Experience / Skills Required
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities related to major agricultural sector reforms.
* Experience interpreting and evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; a self-starter who develops and advances ideas.

Location & Working Arrangements
EA Office base location; national role with flexible/hybrid working in England. Some travel/overnights may be required. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
