Senior Practitioner – AMHP (Ref: SS00126)
Salary: G10: £47,181 - £50,269 per annum (pay scales under review)
This position is part of Walsall Council’s AMHP Team within the dedicated 24/7 AMHP Hub. The role involves shift work, autonomous decision‑making, and a person‑centred approach to referrals and assessments under the Mental Health Act.
Responsibilities
* Work the 24/7 shift rota alongside six full‑time AMHPs, with additional support from community AMHPs during office hours.
* Make independent decisions on referrals, initial considerations, and, where appropriate, conduct and complete Mental Health Act assessments.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the Human Rights Act, the Mental Health Act, their Code of Practice, and related legislation, including recent case law.
* Provide comprehensive person‑centred responses to referrals, prioritising the rights and needs of individuals.
* Assist the AMHP Lead to develop and improve the Hub service, coordinating activities and ensuring high‑quality safeguarding and welfare practices.
Qualifications
* Qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) with a strong understanding of the Mental Health Act.
* Hold a professional qualification such as Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Psychology.
Applicants must hold an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance and, if applicable, provide an Overseas Criminal Records Certificate (OCRC) or Statement of Good Conduct (SOGC) for any period spent abroad.
