Main duties of the job
Core Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clinical Leadership & Patient Care: The post holder delivers high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients. They act as a role model and expert, supervising students and junior staff.
2. Ward Management: Responsibilities include managing the general day-to-day running of the ward during shifts, coordinating patient care needs, and ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix.
3. Communication & Collaboration: The role requires effective communication and liaison with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT), medical teams, patients, and their families.
4. Quality & Governance: The Sister/Charge Nurse is expected to monitor and maintain agreed standards of care, participate in audits, manage risks, and use the incident reporting system to ensure continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
5. Human Resources Support: The individual assists the Ward Manager with HR duties such as managing sickness and attendance, conducting staff appraisals, and participating in recruitment and selection processes.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.
Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.
