Welcome to The Tutbury Practice. As a valued member of our General Practice Nursing team, you will work under the supervision of the Practice Nurse Manager and alongside our experienced nurses, GPs, and wider clinical and administrative teams. Your role supports the organisation and delivery of holistic, proactive, and patient‑centred care. This role is for 23 hours per week working across 2 and a half days, 8am until 6pm.
You are expected to maintain a high professional standard of practice at all times, working in accordance with our protocols, policies, and clinical guidelines. You will be supported throughout your role and encouraged to continue developing your skills within your professional scope of practice and competency.
You are professionally accountable and report directly to the Nurse Manager and Deputy Nurse Manager.
Main duties of the job
* Perform routine clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, blood pressure checks, ECGs, BMI measurements, suture/clip removal, and lifestyle advice.
* Collect and prepare pathology samples (bloods, swabs, urine cultures) and ensure these are sent to the laboratory in a timely and safe manner.
* Provide health promotion and advice on national screening programmes, signposting patients to services such as wound care, podiatry, and weight management.
* Administer adult and child vaccinations under PSDs and follow national immunisation guidance.
* Use EMIS/Ardens templates accurately for all procedures.
* Act as a chaperone during clinical examinations where needed.
* Assist GPs during minor surgery and coil fittings.
* Maintain strict infection control standards in line with local and national guidelines.
* Prepare clinical waste and sharps bins and complete associated documentation.
* Monitor stock levels in clinical rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are replenished.
Job responsibilities
We are looking to recruit a compassionate and motivated Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist to join our friendly General Practice Nursing team at The Tutbury Practice. The main focus of this role is carrying out phlebotomy clinics and ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely collection of blood samples for patients. The successful candidate will also support the delivery of high-quality, patient‑centred care by undertaking additional clinical duties such as blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, specimen collection, vaccinations, and health promotion advice where appropriate. Working closely with nurses, GPs, and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will maintain excellent standards of infection control, confidentiality, and patient care while accurately recording information using EMIS/Ardens templates. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong communication and organisational skills who is committed to providing compassionate care and delivering an efficient phlebotomy service within a busy GP practice environment.
