Waste Transfer Station Operative – Pembrokeshire County Council
Salary: Grade 5 – £26,403 – £27,694 per year
Hours: 37 hours per week (Open Ended contract)
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction within a modern purpose‑built facility.
* Operate and maintain plant and machinery to support the collection and disposal of waste and recycling from across Pembrokeshire.
* Sort, separate and bulk refuse and recyclable materials received from households and businesses, ensuring all operations are carried out safely and in an environment that is well‑maintained.
* Support the Council’s goal of becoming a top recycling authority in Wales, contributing to continuous service improvement and meeting Welsh Government targets and legislation.
* Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and cooperation with other crew members.
Qualifications and Requirements
* A valid driving licence is desirable, ideally including HGV and experience operating forklift and telehandler.
* Must be physically fit, able to lift and move bins, boxes and operate plant/machinery throughout the working day.
* High degree of awareness of health and safety in relation to manual handling, plant and machinery and vehicle movements.
* Requirement to be literate and numerate in order to accept work instructions and complete necessary work documentation, with ability to use IT systems.
* Availability to work bank holidays, weekends affected by the Christmas closure, and potentially some overtime.
