Toolmaker
Role Responsibilities:
Responsible for the repair, maintenance and improvement to all tooling, jigs, fixtures and fittings for injection moulding press tools in line with production and customer requirements to support business objectives. Support new tooling for new product introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds.
Role Requirements:
1. Repair, maintain, and service injection mould tools
2. Attend breakdowns, identify fault and problem solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production
3. Evaluate each job and determine if it can be repaired in press or must be removed to ToolRoom for essential maintenance and repair work
4. Estimate length of time required to complete a job and likely consequences of failure to complete work within required timescales
5. Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage
6. Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to Engineering Supervisor
7. Ensure all work is undertaken to a high-quality standard and adheres to all quality standard regulations
8. Ensure company targets are met in respect of quality of parts produced
9. Identify spares requirements and log usage
10. Conduct Safe operation of Overhead Crane
11. Comply with Plant LOTO procedures at all times
12. Support new project tooling from commissioning stages through to start of production
13. Assist in tooling buyoffs and trials
14. Manufacture ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines
15. Document and update tool history and other work records
16. Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance
17. Test and confirm electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation of tools before return to production
18. Maintain the highest standards of workmanship at all times
19. Record all relevant data in relation to tooling and record on the Tool Room database
20. Be actively involved in improvement activities to support the achievement of departmental and company objectives
21. Ensure risk assessments are available, read and understood for each activity undertaken
22. Understand and operate within basic cost/budget measures for tooling
23. Work within 5S methodology to maintain workplace to a high standard
24. Ensure all personal protective equipment is identified, always available, correctly used and all associated problems are reported to Engineering Supervisor
25. Ensure all lost time, minor and near miss accidents are reported
26. Promote environmental issues and ensure all company procedures are understood and followed
27. Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends regarding tool making
28. Undertake special projects as required
29. Quality control of work by appropriate reviews
30. Undertake continuous training and development
31. Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
32. Ensure a safe working environment exists for self and colleagues, ensuring all health, safety environmental and quality management procedures are followed and achieve the company’s and departmental KPI targets
33. Ensure that contractors are utilised in accordance with company procedures
Qualifications and Experience:
34. GCSE Level A-C, IVQ Technician certificate, BTEC first certificate or equivalent NVQ level 2 qualification
35. Considerable Previous tool making experience ideally in the Plastics industry
36. Understanding of lean manufacturing and 5S process
37. Overhead Crane Licence up to 40T
38. Knowledge of measurement
39. Understanding of engineering drawings & manufacturing processes
