The Role
This is a leadership position for an experienced Labour Ward midwife who can inspire and support staff to deliver safer, more personalised midwifery care. The role requires acting as a strong clinical leader, expert practitioner and positive role model while contributing to the implementation of the Best Start national strategy. The post holder will provide shift management and clinical leadership within the midwifery service and act as Unit Coordinator for the Maternity Unit.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
* Permanent part‑time post of 34.3 hours per week.
* Location: Labour Ward, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
* Work pattern: Monday to Sunday, 11.55‑hour day and night shifts on a rotational basis.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead shift management and provide clinical leadership for the midwifery service.
* Ensure high standards of maternity care through effective staff management, prioritisation and team coordination.
* Act as an effective team player, leader and team builder.
* Collaborate across the maternity service to ensure seamless, personalised, woman‑centred care.
* Undertake the role of Unit Coordinator for the Maternity Unit.
* Assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate care throughout the childbirth continuum for women and babies.
* Escalate concerns to relevant professionals when required.
* Assist with staff management and contribute to the delivery of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Maternity Strategy objectives.
Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
* Demonstrable experience in labour ward midwifery.
* Proven experience in service improvement and governance.
* Ability to lead, inspire and act as a role model for staff.
* Strong clinical expertise in midwifery practice.
* Understanding and commitment to the Best Start national strategy.
* Skills in effective communication, collaboration and team leadership.
