Your New Role
You will be part of the Game Programming team that works alongside designers, gameplay artists, animators, VFX and SFX artists to create the gameplay code for a major IP-based LEGO game built in Unreal Engine.
Responsibilities
* Work with animators, artists, and designers to engineer reusable modular game systems.
* Develop AI systems for enemies, party members, and bosses.
* Write fun player mechanics and reusable gameplay systems that allow designers to populate open worlds.
* Implement GUI systems, achievements, trophies, and rich presence.
* Apply C++ and the Unreal editor to deliver all above.
Accountabilities
* Participate in and conduct swarm reviews to uphold studio coding standards.
* Write unit, functional, and integration tests to ensure robust functionality.
* Promote test‑driven development throughout the department and studio.
* Drive the direction of efficient and easy‑to‑use workflows.
* Support world‑class artists, animators, and designers with game‑play technology and associated tools.
* Provide and verify time estimates for complex programming tasks.
* Generate and manage feature tasks with minimal supervision.
* Mentor junior, mid‑level, and senior programmers.
* Analyze design documents for risk and offer creative solutions.
* Guide future directions of key gameplay technology areas, communicating and collaborating effectively.
* Analyze performance and create improvement tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
* Expertise in programming gameplay and mechanics with a deep understanding of what makes games feel good.
* Experience on all major release platforms.
* Proficiency in object‑oriented C++ with strong debugging and documentation skills.
* Expertise in 3D mathematics and physics.
* Experience in the games industry with multiple released titles.
* Expertise in systems optimisation; adept at analysing overall performance characteristics and recommending improvements.
Bonus Points
* Unreal Engine experience on at least one released game.
* A bachelor’s or postgraduate degree, or relevant experience, in Computer Science or a related field.
Hybrid Working
