The Assistant Management Accountant plays a vital role in delivering a high-quality and professional finance service to the business. Supporting the Head of Finance, this position is responsible for the accurate preparation, analysis, and reporting of financial data. The role also includes day-to-day team leadership responsibilities within the finance function, helping to foster a strong, efficient, and collaborative department. This is a hands-on role within a manufacturing environment that requires both technical financial acumen and leadership capability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and post journals in the ERP system (Epicor).
2. Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
3. Generate cost centre data and conduct monthly reviews with Budget Holders.
4. Own and manage Work In Progress (WIP) reporting; collaborate with Project Engineers to ensure financial accuracy of project data.
5. Act as a key contact for annual external audits and internal audits.
6. Lead and coordinate the annual stock take in conjunction with warehouse teams, ensuring complete documentation.
7. Act as a data accuracy champion, identifying, resolving, and preventing errors in ERP data sets.
8. Manage lease records and support lease accounting processes.
9. Assist the Head of Finance with:
o Monthly management accounts preparation and review
o Budgeting and forecasting activities
o Year-end accounts and audit preparation
o WIP management from a financial perspective
10. Provide guidance and leadership to the finance team, encouraging a positive and high-performing culture.
11. Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and assist with people management under the direction of the Head of Finance.
12. Support ERP and system maintenance and development.
13. Contribute to fixed asset management processes.
14. Develop, implement, and audit departmental policies and procedures.
15. Support the department with ad hoc projects and duties as required.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential:

* Forward-thinking with a strong problem-solving mindset.
* Proactive and self-motivated with a drive to improve processes and accuracy.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Customer and service-focused approach.
* High attention to detail with a focus on data integrity and accuracy.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Experience in a finance or management accounting role.

Desirable:

* Experience using the Epicor ERP system.
* AAT qualified or equivalent.
* Part-qualified or fully qualified (CIMA or ACCA).
* Experience with WIP management and project accounting.
* Background in a manufacturing environment.
