Overview
This senior role places you at the forefront of clinical pharmacy leadership within the Trust. As Deputy Chief Pharmacist, you’ll help shape strategic direction, drive service excellence, and ensure the delivery of safe, effective pharmaceutical care across diverse clinical areas. You’ll work closely with the Chief Pharmacist, deputising across internal and external forums, while managing a talented pharmacy team and leading service development aligned with national standards and the Trust’s clinical ambitions.
Responsibilities
* Represent Pharmacy team at Trust, regional, and local health economy meetings
* Participate in clinical service rotas and act as Responsible Pharmacist
* Support and deputise for the Chief Pharmacist in leadership and strategy
* Manage daily clinical pharmacy services and supervise staff
* Implement departmental strategy and lead service development
* Develop KPIs and ensure professional standards are met
* Provide visible leadership and performance oversight
* Manage medicine budgets and procurement within financial guidelines
* Collaborate on workforce strategy and service improvements
* Deliver front-line pharmacy services when required and assume a lead role representing the Pharmacy team at relevant Trust, local health economy and regional meetings
* Participate in front-line provision of clinical services and GPhC Responsible Pharmacist activities within dispensary (including weekends and bank holidays)
* Support the Chief Pharmacist in leadership, development, strategy and staff management of all pharmaceutical services to the Trust
* Deputise for the Chief Pharmacist in their absence across a range of forums, including externally from the Trust
* Manage day-to-day provision of a clinical pharmacy service and line-manage the pharmacy team per the department structure
* Support the Chief Pharmacist in implementing departmental strategy and embedding change into clinical and operational services
* Develop KPIs with the Chief Pharmacist to ensure professional standards are met
* Provide visible, strong professional leadership and management of pharmacy staff
* Lead the identification and dissemination of performance standards to measure effectiveness, quality, and safety of clinical pharmacy services
* Ensure financial management within the clinical pharmacy service, including budgets and procurement contracts for identified clinical areas
* Collaborate with the pharmacy Senior Management Team to improve clinical pharmacy services and align workforce strategy with Trust objectives
* Deputise in the absence of the Chief Pharmacist and assume managerial accountability for the pharmacy department
* Participate in the front-line provision of pharmacy services as required
