About The Role

The University of Bath is an international centre for research and teaching excellence, committed to achieving global reach.

We are seeking to appoint a fixed term teaching-focussed Lecturer to cover temporary staff absence in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences (DSPS).

DSPS is committed to being interdisciplinary, progressive, and impactful in both research and teaching. Its academic staff come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds including economics, sociology, politics, anthropology, geography, development studies, social and public policy, social work, and criminology.

The Department is home to the Centre for Development Studies, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025.

About The Role

You will contribute to teaching on our highly successful degree courses.

We are looking for applicants with excellent teaching credentials and teaching experience who are interested in joining a collaborative and committed team.

Principal Responsibilities Will Include (but Not Be Limited To):

* Designing and leading innovative teaching and assessment on our undergraduate qualitative research methods units
* Supervising dissertations and other research projects for undergraduates and postgraduates
* Acting as an Academic Tutor to undergraduates
* Contributing to wider undergraduate teaching in social sciences and international development as required

Ideally, you will already hold a PhD or equivalent from a relevant discipline, as well as teaching experience in qualitative methods.

We particularly welcome candidates with further experience in teaching in sociology, social policy or international development.

While open to applicants with diverse interests and expertise you will need to demonstrate a willingness and capacity to thrive within a strongly interdisciplinary community, and a commitment to high quality teaching.

Additional Information

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week), fixed term basis with an expected end date of July 2027.

In addition to the Centre for Development Studies DSPS is home to the Centre for Analysis of Social Policy, and the Centre for Death and Society. It also has strong relations with the Institute for Policy Research.
