I'm currently working with a long-standing, family-run horticultural business to recruit a Picking Supervisor for their busy warehouse and live goods dispatch operation. This is a hands-on supervisory role ideal for someone with good people instincts, strong organisational skills, and the ability to maintain quality under pressure.
You'll be supervising a team of pickers who work with live plants, compost, pots, ornaments, and related horticultural products, ensuring orders are picked accurately and dispatched efficiently.
The Role
* Supervise and support a team of up to 10 pickers
* Deliver short daily briefings to set priorities, discuss shortages, and maintain workflow
* Maintain picking spreadsheets and track outputs
* Ensure quality - choosing plants/products as if you were the customer
* Keep stock areas organised and ensure trolleys are filled correctly
* Step in and support where needed, while holding the team to expectations
* Work closely with warehouse and goods-in teams to manage flow and logistics
The Ideal Candidate
* Has experience supervising or coordinating teams (warehouse, horticulture, food manufactruing)
* Possesses good common sense and a practical, no-nonsense approach
* Can stay calm under pressure and is comfortable giving direction
* Ideally has some knowledge of plants or live goods (training is provided if not)
* Is reliable, present, and focused on delivering results through their team
