Environment & Sustainability Manager - Willesden Junction (Contract)

Carmichael is seeking a dedicated Environment & Sustainability Manager to join a flagship infrastructure project based at Willesden Junction. This is a high-impact contract role focused on securing and fulfilling critical Environment Agency (EA) consents to ensure the project meets its stringent regulatory and sustainability targets.

The Role

You will lead the environmental delivery for major works, acting as the primary interface between the project team and the Environment Agency. Your mission is to ensure that all site activities remain compliant with environmental permits while driving a culture of sustainability across the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

* EA Consent Management: Lead the end-to-end delivery of all environmental consenting requirements, ensuring all necessary permits and licences are secured and maintained.
* Regulatory Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for the Environment Agency and other regulators, managing inspections and reporting requirements.
* Compliance & Monitoring: Oversee the implementation of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and maintain a legal compliance matrix to track all statutory obligations.
* Sustainability Reporting: Manage the tracking and reporting of Project environmental KPIs, including carbon reduction, waste efficiency, and biodiversity net gain.
* Incident Management: Lead investigations into environmental incidents, ensuring robust reporting and the implementation of lessons learned.
* Team Leadership: Provide expert guidance to site teams, subcontractors, and junior environmental staff to embed best practices.

What You'll Need

* Experience: Proven track record of managing E&S on large-scale, highly regulated UK construction projects (e.g., Rail, HS2, or Civils).
* Consents Expertise: Extensive knowledge of EA permits, discharge consents, and waste exemptions within a construction context.
* Education: A degree in an environmental discipline or equivalent technical qualification.
* Professional Membership: Preferably Chartered Environmentalist (Full IEMA) status or working towards it.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency in environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and reporting tools like SmartWaste.
