I am working with an entrepreneurial-led SME looking to recruit a qualified, suitably experienced individual as Finance Director and Company Secretary to lead the business through the next phase of its development. Boasting a long held reputation for the quality and reliability of their products, profitable, and with exciting growth opportunities, there are no monsters hiding under the bed here.
Ideally from an engineering or manufacturing background with a continued emphasis on R&D and new product development, or with advisory experience to businesses in that type of environment, you will possess a recognised accountancy qualification, and have already held a no1 in finance role, with significant exposure to year end requirements, company secretarial necessities and the ad-hoc involvements in a non-finance areas that come with the territory. You will become part of an extremely experienced senior management group, committed to driving the business forward, and inherit a highly capable finance team and a state of the art IT system.
A key element we are seeking however, is experience, or a desire to develop experience, in non-finance areas. With the other members of the senior team rightly focussed on their core skills and quantifiables, it has fallen in the recent past to the Finance Director to cover many other aspects other than just ensuring that month end reporting, budgeting and statutory requirements are met. This has taken many forms, from supporting the sales team in developing new routes to market (directly or indirectly), maintaining compliance with HR and HSE best practice and IS09002 requirements, and taking day to day commercial decisions to best serve the interests of the business, and thereby the shareholders.
