Position
An exciting acting up opportunity is being offered to existing Band 5 Registered Nurses Mental Health (RNMH) within North Ayrshire Adult Community Psychiatric Nursing Team to apply for a Band 6 acting up post. This temporary position is to provide cover for a Charge Nurse who will be undertaking a secondment, with the post running until the end of March 2026.
What you will do:
This opportunity supports career progression and aims to maintain the delivery of evidence-based practice tailored to individual clinical needs. The successful applicant will be highly motivated and committed to providing mental health care to individuals diagnosed with, or suspected to be experiencing, mental illness requiring assessment, treatment, and intervention from the Community Mental Health Service. Care will be delivered within patients’ homes and community settings.

You must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as a lone worker across various community settings, and a sound understanding of current mental health policies and legislation.
Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
Key responsibilities include:
1. Coordinating, developing, and implementing specialist community mental health nursing interventions.
2. Supporting patients and carers within a multi-disciplinary framework, particularly in the post-admission period to facilitate smoother discharge.
3. Responding dynamically to clinical situations and managing team capacity to meet service demands.
4. Providing leadership, management, support, and supervision to junior staff.
5. Ensuring staff training and development aligns with local health needs and governance requirements.
