Caretaker and Security Operative
Hours: Full time (37hrs per week, all year round) on a shift pattern basis of Morning or Afternoons
Duration: Permanent
Salary: £24,476 per annum + benefits

About the Role
The Caretaker and Security Operative fulfills a key role at the College by ensuring that all buildings are available, accessible, and suitable for the use of students, staff, and visitors.
This role is critical in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment. Your professional and friendly approach to dealing with people will influence staff and visitors' perceptions of the College campus.
Main duties will include:
1. Participating in a shift rota to ensure an Estates presence on all campuses whenever the College buildings are open and conducting procedures to open and secure the premises, including keeping premises and equipment secure during the day.
2. Assisting in maintaining cleanliness of college buildings and grounds by removing refuse and emptying bins.
3. Promoting health and safety by keeping corridors and fire exits clear of spills, trips, or hazards during your walks around campus grounds.
4. Ensuring rooms are prepared for use, including setting up rooms for curriculum areas or meetings, and assisting with staff room moves or furniture re-arrangements.
5. Ensuring timely delivery of goods, documents, and parcels to the correct areas within or outside the college campus to support effective departmental operations.
6. Performing routine maintenance and repairs, advising on improvements to the environment, and supporting risk assessments and planned maintenance programs.
7. Responding to emergencies, including evacuations during fire drills, directing emergency services, and responding to lift breakdowns to release trapped persons.
8. Assisting in providing First Aid as required.
Requirements
You should have prior experience in a maintenance, security, caretaking, or similar role (preferably within education, but this is not essential).
You should hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths or be willing to work towards these qualifications.
Department Info
You will report to the Estates and Facilities Management Team and collaborate with colleagues across all College campuses.
