Overview
Specialist Speech and Language Therapist position within South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Three days a week you will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Language and Learning Partnership Team (LLP) supporting children in mainstream education in Sunderland aged 2-16 years who experience difficulties in accessing the curriculum due to moderate to severe language and/or learning difficulties. The LLP team includes teachers, higher-level teaching assistants and a speech and language therapist. Two days a week you will work as part of the wider children\'s speech and language therapy team, mainly in community clinics and education settings. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of children with different speech, language and communication needs, and you will be part of a large, needs-led SLT team with regular supervision and support.

Responsibilities
* Provide a specialist speech, language and communication service to patients with a wide range of speech, language, communication, eating and drinking difficulties across community settings including health centres, mainstream schools, specialist provisions and early years settings.
* Provide clinical supervision and mentoring for less experienced Speech and Language Therapists and supervision for students and SLT assistants.
* Develop and deliver specialist training and education programmes re. speech and language disorders to parents, carers and other professionals.
* Participate in clinical governance activities such as research, audits and evidence-based practice.
* Liaise with and advise other agencies and professionals involved with the patient.
* Contribute to service planning, improvement and modernisation to ensure patient safety.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification
* Membership of Health Care Professions Council
* Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
* Fulfilment of NQT RCSLT competency criteria
* Evidence of CPD including specialist post-graduate training (e.g. dysphagia management, Hanen, Makaton)
* Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups
* Knowledge of a range of specialist assessment tools for paediatric disorders
* Knowledge of current national policies and procedures (Education, Health and Care Planning, Children and Families Act 2014)
* Understanding of clinical governance and audit principles
* Knowledge of NHS and Local Educational Authority structures
Desirable qualifications
* Knowledge of STSFT and Local Educational Authorities structures and care pathways
Experience
* Significant knowledge and experience of a wide range of developmental speech, language and communication difficulties and their treatments
* Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and liaising with health, education and social professionals
* Experience planning and delivering training for professionals and parents/carers
* Experience at postgraduate level with complex disorders and outcome reporting
* Experience working with highly specialised therapists on complex cases
Desirable experience
* Specialist experience (e.g. dysfluency, Developmental Language Disorder, Autism, Dysphagia)
