An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist to join our neuropsychology and rehabilitation services based at Moseley Hall Hospital in Birmingham.

Our services include Level 1 Inpatient Neurorehabilitation, Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation, Community and Outpatient rehabilitation services, and a specialist vocational rehabilitation pathway. It is an exciting time to be joining our services as we look to further develop our teams and the model of Clinical Neuropsychology within the Trust.

The postholder will work alongside the Divisional Lead Consultant Psychologist and other colleagues to ensure the systematic governance and effective development and delivery of neuropsychology services across inpatients, outpatients and community settings. Leadership, supervision and management are key aspects of this role alongside provision of clinical services.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience in Neuropsychology, have completed the relevant training to be eligible for entry onto the Specialist Register for Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN), and have demonstrable strategic leadership experience relevant to this Consultant-level position.


Main duties of the job

To ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist neuropsychological service to people with specialist rehabilitation needs, across all sectors of care within the catchment area of Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust. To supervise and support the psychological and neuropsychological assessment, therapy and interventions provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment. To support overall clinical, professional and strategic governance for ASR Neuropsychology services in collaboration with the Divisional Lead Consultant Psychologist.

To exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

To propose and implement policy changes within the area served by the service. To be accountable for the direct delivery of clinical services to clients, their families and carers. To provide out-reach, advice, consultation, training and clinical supervision to ensure the planning, development and systematic provision of a highly specialist, multilevel psychology service within the Division.

To ensure the Psychology Service meets Service objectives, contracting agreements and commissioner requirements such as the completion of UKROC statistics. To ensure sustainability and enhancement of the service by collaborating with commissioners and relevant partners.

The Psychology Service offers support and close links with other psychologists through facilitated reflective practice groups, CPD events and team meetings. There are good links with the local DClinPsy training courses and the MSCi pathway at Birmingham and Coventry Universities.

To undertake and advise other psychologists in highly specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments of complex cases, assessing cognition, personality, beliefs, attitudes, behaviour, emotional function, and other relevant psychological characteristics and dimensions and factors relevant to the development, maintenance and understanding of the client’s neuropsychological difficulties as appropriate.

To develop highly complex formulations and implement plans for the formal neuropsychological treatment and/or management of a clients’ highly complex psychological problems, including family breakdown, serious mental illness, vulnerable adults and aggressive and violent behaviour, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, using advanced and practical knowledge of a range of work procedures and practices across the full range of care settings, where frequent and intense concentration is required.

To develop and implement highly complex plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of the client’s presenting problems, that are based upon highly specialist and advanced knowledge and an appropriate conceptual framework, that employ psychological procedures and practices having an evidence base for their efficacy and/or an established theoretical basis for their use.

To propose and implement policy or service changes and developments, particularly those that enhance the availability and accessibility of psychologically informed clinical practice or that otherwise improve the efficacy, efficiency or quality of the service offered by the MDT. In this respect designs, implements and evaluates clinical, governance and service initiatives and co-ordinates the work of others involved as appropriate


Person specification


Qualifications

* Postgraduate Doctoral Level training in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent)
* Registered with the HCPC
* Eligible for inclusion on the BPS Specialist Register in Clinical Neuropsychology


Experience

* Extensive post qualification experience of highly specialist assessment and treatment of patients presenting with Rehabilitation needs
* Extensive clinical experience in Neuropsychology Services
* Experience of service development in a multidisciplinary context.
* Clinical research and/or staff consultancy, staff teaching and staff support roles.
* Supervision of qualified / assistant / trainee psychologists
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment working within the context of an MDT
* Experience of doctorate-level teaching for psychology and of tailoring training to the differing needs of other professions on psychological matters.
* Clinical experience with diverse client groups /other populations


Skills

* Ability to work on own initiative demonstrating sound judgement abilities.
* Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries (internal & external)
* Personal organisation including time management, work prioritisation & planning skills
* Knowledge of national policy and guidance for the delivery of services to people with rehabilitation needs.

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.

Please note that the majority of non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Band 3 - 6) with the exception of those which appear on this list - link, will not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK.

All non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Bands 7 - 9) that meet the prescribed skill level (RQF 6) and salary threshold will be eligible for sponsorship.
