Triple A (All About Autism) is a small Penrith based charity working across Cumbria and North Lancashire supporting and connecting autistic adults. We operate a diverse service portfolio including the Navigator Programme, social groups, post-diagnosis support, inclusion at work and Autism Awareness training delivery.
Job description
An autism specialist mentoring role in which an individual supports an autistic adult on a one-to-one basis to help them to navigate barriers in their life and to increase their understanding of themselves, their autism journey and what this means for them.
Job Summary
Navigators work with autistic adults and young people (14+). The postholder will be working both as part of a team and on a one-to-one basis, providing support to the referred person. The approach is person-centred, and the aim is an approach that positively impacts their health and wellbeing, whilst supporting them to fulfil their potential and thrive.
The Role
* building a supportive and trusting relationship, which involves getting to know each other
* listening to your mentee and discussing anything that is worrying them or causing them to feel anxious
* clarifying what your mentee wants to achieve or change in their life
* planning with them to identify the steps needed to reach their goals
* encouraging your mentee to think and talk about their hopes for the future
* talking about any relevant experiences and problems they have overcome
* discussing and reviewing progress with your mentee on a regular basis
* work effectively alongside professionals to access ongoing support that the individual is entitled to (Adult Social Care, Mental Health Support, Benefits etc.).
* establishing appropriate boundaries with the mentee
* regularly review Navigation with mentee and with Line-Manager
use tools and resources to identify needs of Individual
* plan and agree an exit strategy for when Navigation comes to an end
* Providing relief cover for. or collaborating with, other mentors
* Opportunities to be involved in other projects
Qualifications and experience
Our Navigator mentees come from several different professional backgrounds relevant to the role, essential qualifications are:
* A good understanding of Autism.
* An understanding of the principles of Health and Safety.
* An awareness of safeguarding issues/ procedures and legislation and willingness to undergo mandatory safeguarding training.
* A good standard of education.
* Current clear DBS check or willingness to undergo a DBS check before commencing employment.
* Experience of autism or working with autistic people.
* A full clean driving licence and access to own vehicle is essential

Pay: £15 per hour plus travel
Hours: 10 hours per week (Initially for maternity cover) with potential for additional hours
Location: Community based role in the West Cumbria area with occasional travel to Penrith for training and team days.
