Overview
An exciting opportunity for a dynamic Nurse Specialist to support patients with Parkinson's Disease in the West Midlands. This is a full time, band 6 post (developmental band 6 possible if no prior CNS experience) based within the Department of Neurology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), providing services to people living in the county and surrounding areas. The successful applicant will join the expanding neurological team at RWT and will receive expert clinical leadership and support from two Consultant Neurologists with specialist interest in Movement Disorders. The Department of Neurology supports staff with induction, training and advanced educational opportunities and uses approved competencies to develop a clear career pathway towards expert practice.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of neurological services across the Trust and will exercise professional autonomy to make critical judgments using specialist knowledge, delivering the highest standard of holistic patient care for patients with Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders.
Responsibilities
* Organise and manage your own workload under the supervision of the service lead.
* undertake clinics in various locations throughout Wolverhampton, Telford and Shropshire (current clinic sites: Cannock, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Telford).
* Run and maintain nurse-led clinics independently; assess patients and devise, implement and review comprehensive Parkinson's Disease care plans.
* Work with the wider multidisciplinary team to benefit people with Parkinson's Disease and Atypical Parkinson's conditions.
* Deliver urgent and regular nurse-led clinics, including phone clinics for urgent and review cases.
* Participate in annual Parkinson's UK audits to identify areas of excellence or improvement for the service and patients.
* Provide knowledge and support to patients and their families, and to other health care professionals.
* Work as a core member of the multidisciplinary team and act as a specialist resource across multi-agency settings as required.
* Work autonomously within clinical settings across the region within your limitations and provide support for patients and health care professionals in the acute setting.
* Contribute to service development and achievement of organisational objectives, with a focus on safe and effective clinical practice, patient experience, and efficient use of resources.
Qualifications and requirements
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration;
* Band 6 CNS level or equivalent with demonstrable interest/experience in Movement Disorders; potential for developmental band 6 consideration if no CNS experience.
* Experience in neurology nursing and ability to run clinics and manage care plans;
* Ability to work autonomously, travel between sites, and participate in flexible and varied clinic schedules (including outreach sites in Cannock, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Telford).
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work with a multidisciplinary team and support patients and families.
