Senior C&I Architect Engineer
Location: Hybrid working with primary sites at Derby, Manchester or Warrington.
Salary: £73,100 – £95,944 (DOE).
Rolls‑Royce SMR is recruiting a Senior Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Architect Engineer to lead delivery of a new nuclear power station.
About the Role
As a C&I Design expert, you will lead and manage a team to define the overall C&I architecture for the Rolls‑Royce SMR power station. The EC&I department has over 100 engineers with ambitious growth plans.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical oversight to the C&I design at overall architecture level: leading functional architecture‑level decisions, conducting architecture‑level analyses (independence, separation, segregation concepts), maintaining a broad technical view, leading integration between C&I architecture groups across island stations, providing oversight on cross‑cutting systems requirements, ensuring SMR standardisation principles, supporting validation of the overall physical architecture.
* Develop overall architecture level documentation: owning and managing outputs such as the architecture model (Capella), architecture systems design description, aligning with the safety case (CAE), facilitating updates into system‑level architecture via agile requirements flow.
* Integrate with the SMR power plant: act as focal point for power‑station integration, capture functional interface definitions, support inter‑system functions, support process development for overall C&I architecture, review and enhance system engineering processes, lead standardisation across architecture groups.
Key Selection Criteria
* Significant experience across the full C&I system design lifecycle.
* Deep understanding of fault‑tolerant design principles and compliance with safety‑critical standards such as IEC 61508, 61513, 61226.
* Demonstrated ability to apply systems engineering approaches including requirements management and structured verification.
* Experience with requirements management tools (IBM DOORS, Polarion) and MBSE tools (Capella preferred).
* Familiarity with systems engineering methodologies such as holistic requirements modelling, Pugh matrix, interface management.
* Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to stakeholders and delivering documentation‑heavy presentations.
* Proven leadership experience, including technical and people management, with the ability to develop high‑performing teams.
* Degree‑qualified in Engineering or related discipline with experience in C&I systems and systems engineering practices.
Salary and Package
* Salary: £73,100 – £95,944.
* Performance‑related bonus target of 17%.
* Benefits allowance: £5,000 per annum.
* Pension: 12% employer + 6% employee contributions.
* Holidays: 28 days + public holidays, with option to buy or sell up to 4 days.
