In this role, you’ll be pivotal to ensuring that our corporate and business strategies are supported by the very best financial accounting and control processes – and that these processes continually maximise our profitability and efficiency. As a Finance Manager within our Financial Control team, you will combine technical accounting with coaching, communication, influencing, leadership and prioritisation skills to ensure that we maintain a strong control environment over one of our key Trading areas, and help the Traders/Buyers to deliver their financial plan (Sales & GP).
Responsibilities
* Manage accurate and timely production of financial information for internal and external reporting, ensuring compliance with group accounting policies and procedures and maintaining the related financial control environment.
* Review financial performance on a monthly basis with Commercial Finance customers, clearly articulating variances to plan and forecast.
* Maintain awareness of risk management issues across a key Trading area and lead cross‑functional projects to enhance the control environment.
* Advise Traders/Buyers and Commercial Finance teams on the risk and financial control implications of new business initiatives.
* Review month‑end balance sheet reconciliations.
* Deliver through others by managing a team of one qualified accountant and one trainee accountant, coaching and developing colleagues, and managing resources to meet team priorities.
Qualifications
* Delivery of process improvement within the team, seeking opportunities to make processes more efficient.
* Qualified accountant with post‑qualification experience (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
* Strong technical accounting background.
* Leadership experience, particularly coaching and developing others.
* Confidence liaising with people at all levels.
* Great analytical skills and strong communication.
* Ability to quickly prioritise and make decisions.
* Ability to think laterally and challenge the status‑quo.
* Hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of three days a week in a Home Office; additional days may be required for meetings with suppliers, stores or depots.
