Hospital sterilisation and disinfection unit technician

Overview

Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection (HSDU) Technician role based at County site with cover at Royal Stoke site. Fully flexible and shift patterns may be changed at short notice.

Responsibilities

• Supply and maintain surgical instruments used in procedures.
• Check instruments into department after use.
• Clean, disinfect, package, sterilise and deliver back to theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries.
• Work permanent weekends with a back‑fill day off in the week.
• Be on call and bank holiday rota as required.

Shift Patterns and Pay

Days 06:00–14:00, Twilight 14:00–22:00, Nights 22:00–06:00.

Saturday: 08:00–16:00 or 12:00–20:00.

Sunday: Day shift hours TBA or 22:00–06:00.

Permanent night shift may be discussed. Pay scale – Band 2 plus enhancement pay after 20:00–06:00 as per Agenda for Change. Weekends at enhanced rate.

Qualifications

• Good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills.
• Basic computer skills; ability to read small letters on instruments and follow written instructions.
• No previous experience required – full in‑house training provided.
