Overview

Reporting to the SARC Manager, the SARC Patient Crisis Worker (SPCW) will play a vital role in coordinating various aspects of SARC activities. The SPCW will undergo training to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, which includes providing support for the Forensic Examination Service at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).


Key Responsibilities

* Provide telephone information and support to patients and their families.
* Manage the administration and coordination of visits by adults, children, and families, including supporting the patient on their journey through the examination and assisting with the use of the colposcope during the examination procedure.
* Deliver advocacy support to patients and their families, ensuring a compassionate and patient‑centered approach while maintaining high standards through anti‑contamination processes and measures.
* Work closely with the SARC Manager to recruit and train zero‑hour SPCWs, support outreach programs to raise awareness of SARC services, and assist in achieving and maintaining UKAS accreditation for the service, as well as support the implementation and ongoing delivery of ISO 15189 and the FSR Code of Practice.
* Training and competency assessing new SPCWs in forensic cleaning.
* Book in forensic consumables ensuring acceptance testing and inventory management is complete.
* Assist with DNA environmental monitoring where applicable.
* Audit anti‑contamination processes.
* Understand contamination risks associated with the activities undertaken as part of their role.
* Oversee the continued support of patients following their initial visit to the SARC, conducting follow‑up calls, regular check‑ins, and coordinating onward referrals as part of a six‑week patient case‑management program.
* Offer sensitive and non‑judgmental support, empowering service users to regain control, rebuild their self‑esteem, and progress positively in their recovery journey.


Location and Shift Pattern

Location: Sussex SARC, and additional locations through the South East.

Shift Pattern: 24/7; 365 days per year.


Shift Hours

* 8 pm to 8 am Monday to Friday
* 8 pm to 9 am Friday into Saturday
* 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday
* 5 pm to 1 am Saturday and Sunday
* 1 am to 9 am Saturday into Sunday
* 1 am to 9 am Sunday into Monday


Compensation

Retainer rates from £35.21 to £49.66 (day and shift dependent); attendance payment £48.03; hourly rate if called out for a case £16.01 (over 3 hours).

Qualifications

* Experience working in a supportive or customer‑focused environment.
* Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality.
* Because of the nature of the Sexual Offence Examiner, applications are invited from females only. This post has a genuine occupational qualification under the Sex Discrimination Act, Section 7(2)b and 7(2)e.
* Having a UK driving licence is required for this role and access to a vehicle.
* Advanced DBS and level 2 Police vetting will be required.
