Job Summary
Mid Sussex Health Care has an exciting vacancy for an Experienced Health Care Assistant at our large, 22,000 patient practice, GMS Teaching practice, which operates across 3 sites. We have a diverse range of nursing skills within The Practice Nursing Team providing a full complement of nursing services. You would be working alongside a friendly, experienced team. We are looking for a motivated and skilled HCA who loves the challenge of working in General practice.
Responsibilities
* Simple and complex wound care
* Suture removal / removal of sutures and clips
* Health checks
* ECG recording (including 24‑hour monitoring)
* Phlebotomy / INR testing
* Urinalysis and management of other laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
* Chaperoning duties
* Blood pressure checks / monitoring (including 24‑hour BP monitoring)
* Processing and management of lab samples requested by GP's/Nurses
* Vaccine and cold chain storage, monitoring and recording (including B12 and influenza vaccinations in line with PSD)
* Flu immunisation, B12 injections, Pneumo injections, Shingles immunisations
* Surgical equipment re‑stocking and stock rotation; sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
* Clearing and re‑stocking consulting rooms
* Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor surgery and Gynae clinics
* Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well‑being
* Helping to raise awareness of health and well‑being and how it can be promoted
* Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically for that individual
* Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well‑being
* Administrative tasks relevant to assist with practice audits and patient monitoring

Health & Safety
The post holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management of health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, Health & Safety manual and Infection Control policy and published procedures. This includes, but is not limited to: using personal security systems; awareness of national standards of infection control; correct and safe management of specimen processes; management and maintenance of PPE; responsible hand hygiene; ownership and implementation of infection control protocols; active observation of current practice; identifying risks and mitigating them; training and managing others on infection control; monitoring facility and equipment; safe management of sharps; spillage and decontamination control; periodic infection control training; waste management; and general cleanliness across the practice.

Person Specification – Essential
* Qualified in phlebotomy and wound care (medical HCA only); care assistant experience is not sufficient.
* Certified and experienced in phlebotomy.
* Competent in basic nursing duties required for the post.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Experience working in primary care/GP practice.
* Competent in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
* NVQ Level 2 in clinical health care or equivalent.
* NVQ Level 2 in health and social care.
* Experience in System One.
