What We Are Looking For...
Our Design Team delivers stand-out, affordable fashion with the unique style and touches that underpin the River Island handwriting. As a Designer, you’ll start to set the direction for your categories, responsible for the full development cycle of products that reflect key trends, drive commercial results, and present a balanced range for our customers.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Deliver superior products from concept to completion, representing key trends and opportunities, and creating a balanced range for your category.
2. Produce designs to a high technical standard, with an excellent first sample hit rate, through a strong understanding of fabric, engineering, fit, and quality.
3. Lead and shape Product Development discussions based on broad market and customer research, aligned with the River Island brand.
4. Identify and realize new product and design opportunities by developing industry and competitor awareness.
5. Ensure designs align with sales history, sales and margin targets, and range plans to maximize commercial success.
6. Collaborate with Buying, suppliers, fabric mills, and sourcing teams to identify opportunities for newness, trends, and sourcing.
7. Support and mentor junior team members, fostering inclusion and diversity of opinion.
8. Manage workload and provide direction to Trainee and Assistant Designers for effective contribution.
Key experience required:
1. Previous experience as a Junior Designer or equivalent.
2. Relevant qualifications or studies in Design.
3. Portfolio of Design work.
4. Experience in mentoring and developing others.
Job role competencies:
1. Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
2. Strong product development and technical design skills.
3. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
4. Mentoring, commercial acumen, and collaboration skills.
5. Market awareness and self-starter attitude.
